AMI AMI AMI AMI AMI AMI
A right hand drive Ami 6 saloon and the mysterious ways how to obtain one

And there it was the object of my desire another masterpiece of Citroen engineers on anonymous scrapyard near Joue-les-Tours in France in 1996. Naturally in France only left hand drive Ami's are available. But it was a start ! The Ami had been living out there in that field for a number of years, all four of the breaks were solid as concrete.

No problem get the diesel fork lift truck out and simply put the Ami on our towtruck.

There it is on our towtruck ready for the trip to its revival in its new homeland.

The body of the Ami 6 is not a heavy thing and can be easily lifted with two men.

After the sandblasting and in green primer

Intermezzo

I was offered a totally rotted out Ami 6 estate Right hand drive but with all the components I needed to make the conversion to the other car. HRO 497G is no longer among us but it's components live on.

The rebuilt interiour all cleaned and repainted.

Also the engine bay all cleaned and the 35 hp motor already in place and running according to plan.

There we are the conversion complete, a new RHD Ami 6 saloon !

Springtime in Holland the RHDAmi with crocusses just for the nice photo.

October 1999 back in Joue-les-Tours. Most of the other cars in the scrapyard disappeared but the big hanger is still in its place. Wouldn't you like to know all the hidden treasures in that hanger ? Sorry to disappoint you it's empty now ! Also the 2CV Azam, the Renault 16, the Dauphinoise and the remains of a Renault NN are gone. I flatter myself with the thought they too found new owners, or were they piled up on a heap melted down and the metal found their ways into new cars, we would never know !
